Started in Hadera in 1996 by volunteers from the Gidon Association for Ethiopian Jews, Maksam began as a grassroots homework-help program operating out of a disused bomb shelter.
Activities quickly grew and attracted support, leading to the establishment of the Maksam After-School Learning and Enrichment Program, which provides children with the educational reinforcement and personal enrichment they need to succeed in the Israeli educational system. For over 16 years, Maksam has served as a model for other organizations in the field of immigrant education in Israel. Today Maksam is a welcome second home to all disadvantaged children of the area, the majority of whom are from immigrant families.
Maksam continues to grow, adding new programs, and expanding coverage to more children every year……
